Places That Will Pay You to Travel After Coronavirus

June 23, 2020

3 Min Read

Coronavirus (Covid-19) changed the world overnight and instantly the era of peak traveling came to a halt. This drastically impacted countries who relied on tourism and many of them are willing to welcome back travelers with incentives for deals on flights and hotels.

For now, traveling will look very different for the foreseeable future, but things are starting to look up. Despite no vaccine travelers are finding themselves on planes, visiting amusement parks, dining outside at their favorite restaurants, and countries are starting to open their borders.  People are expected to wear masks, socially distance themselves, and self quarantine for two weeks.  For those eager to unlock their wanderlust and get back to crossing off items on their bucket list, here’s a list of countries that will pay you to travel after coronavirus.

Most Tourism Dependent Countries

Sicily

Sicily will cover half of flights and a third of hotel expenses, including free entrance to many of its museums and archaeological sites. The vouchers will be available on the Visit Sicily website.

This beautiful island off the coast of Italy is the largest of the islands in the Mediterranean sea. Known for its incredible archaeological sites of Greek temples, volcanic terrain, delicious food, and white sandy beaches with crystal clear water. Since the country closed their borders on March 10th, they’ve reported a lost of $1.09 billion in revenue for tourism related activities. There is no confirmed date or announcement for when the island will completely reopen, but vouchers will be made available as it aims to attract travelers. Continue to check their official website for more details.

Japan

The Go To Travel initiative will subsidize travelers expenses by up to ¥20,000 ($187.00 USD ) a day in the form of discounts and vouchers that can be used at local restaurants and shops.  The offer could be available as early as July, the country is focusing on reopening safely and easing restrictions. This tweet by Japan Tourism Agency seems to focus on incentivizing domestic travel, but does not explicitly exclude foreigners.

Less than 3,000 travelers visited Japan in April, historically one of the busiest months for travelers to catch a glimpse of the blooming cherry blossoms. We can only dream again of when we’ll be allowed to enjoy all the beauty Japan has to offer.

Japan is known worldwide for its culture,  futuristic cities, dazzling shrines, national parks, and fascinating landscapes.

Cancun

Cancun located in the state of Quintana Roo, is offering travelers serious incentives to bring them back.

The campaign #Come2MexicanCaribbean is being promoted across multiple destinations in the Mexican Caribbean, ranging from Cancun to Cozumel. Over 200 businesses are already involved in the effort which launched on June 15th. Visit the campaign’s website come2mexicancaribbean.com and sign up immediately to receive discounts, “Be part of all the travelers who have received a digital coupon with incredible discounts and promotions to make your next vacation to the Mexican Caribbean the best.”

Insider.com reported the following deals: Discounts includes two free nights at hotels for every two nights paid for by guests, two free days of car rentals for every two days paid for, free stays for up to two children when two adults book, as well as 20% off at participating theme parks, golf courses, and spas. However, offers can be determined by the businesses themselves, and may thus vary.

Bring some sunscreen and enjoy a margarita on the beach.

The Ultimate Guide to Exploring Yosemite National Park

Yosemite National Park is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited on earth. Since moving to San Francisco in 2016, I’ve visited over a dozen times and I still find myself taking trips back every year. There’s something special about walking the valley floor where I can’t help but feel beautifully small among the granite giants such as El Capitan and Half Dome. It’s where I fell in love with photographing the outdoors and now I’m sharing everything I know in this Ultimate Guide to Exploring Yosemite National Park.

Photographing Yosemite Firefall in 2021 - Here's How to See It

Thousands gather every year for a chance to witness one of Yosemite National Park’s most incredible natural phenomena known as Firefall at Horsetail Fail. If you’ve ever visited Yosemite National Park in the summer, you may not have noticed or heard of Horsetail Fall. It’s a thin silver of a waterfall that flows off the face of El Captain. Just a few weeks every year in February, this magical event occurs where the sun directs a beam of light at the waterfall turning in into what can only be described as molten lava.

Nobody warned me we were going to climb straight up a frozen waterfall! Completely unprepared without micro-spikes I found myself slipping and sliding over boulders and snow. For most of the climb, I had a constant feeling of how I was barley escaping death with each fall that didn’t send me flying down the mountain

October. The magical time of year when the air is crisp and the leaves suddenly change colors. As you walk the streets, some of the best scents come to life: apple pie, cinnamon, and caramel. You grab your favorite sweater, enjoy a warm mug of hot cider, and head to your neighborhood pumpkin patch. From pumpkin pies to pumpkin spice lattes (PSL), it’s the time of year for pumpkin everything and the internet overloads with #pumpkinspice obsession.

I had plans to visit the east coast this year but due to COVID-19, I wasn’t comfortable getting on a plane yet. Instead I came across this Google Map California Fall Color with the most fitting description “Dude, Autumn Happens Here, Too.” Fall was waiting for me here in California and I wasn’t going to miss it. I packed my bags and headed for a weekend exploring Mammoth and the Eastern Sierras. Thank you Wandrd for sending me a PRVKE camera bag and HEXAD Carryall Travel Duffle which was perfect for this trip! At the bottom of this post, I included a list of my favorite places to eat and drink in Mammoth; there is also a list of resources I used to help track the fall colors!

My 24 Hour Road Trip to Sequoia National Park

I’ve been dreaming of visiting Sequoia National Park in central California for years, which is home to the world’s largest Redwoods and Giant Sequoia trees. Seeing photos of people standing next to these enormous beings, I was in awe. Out of all the national parks I’ve visited, Sequoia National Park is among the most unique and unbelievable. While I tried my best to photograph its beauty, it’s something to be experienced.

Spontaneously though, I rallied a few of my favorite people @realnoice and @lauriesmooz on a Friday evening, we set out for a 24 hour road trip the next morning starting at 4 AM. Due to COVID-19, there were no available campgrounds within the park. Since we only had one day, we were determined to hit the highlights. Here’s everything we did in 24 hours.
